WHAT AM I LISTENING TO NOW?? ---> FLUME

Now I know this album came out a little while ago now but I haven't been able to stop listening to it!!

Rolling Stones called it close to perfect and when you listen you'll see why. Flume is Sydney based electronic artist Harley Streten who began his road to success joining a music production program advertised on a cereal box! Just goes to show life can open up to you in the most unexpected places...

Album of the Week! - Bright Eyes, I'm Wide Awake, Its Morning

A couple of days ago I became re-acquainted with a beloved band of mine called Bright Eyes. They are the perfect sound to listen to when you are indoors on a drizzly day painting or drawing on a creative afternoon.



I was listening to this particular album when painting my final artwork for the HSC back in 2005 and am always reminded of the process and those long days and nights painting away with Bright Eyes softly chiming in the background.

Album of the Week - Florence and the Machine 'Lungs'

Florence and the Machine is the the creation of UK's Florence Welch and is classified as a mixture of indie rock, experimental and alternate rock. Florence and the Machine was highly praised and recognised in the industry before hitting the mainstream and has made leaps and bounds ever since. Florence's voice is unique and otherworldly, creating happy, fun-loving melodies which remind you that life is beautiful and not to be missed!




Lungs released last year is an inspiring album and her new album 'Cosmic Love' is released on the 4th of July so don't miss out!

Album of the Week! - Band of Horses 'Cease to Exist'

I know this album is not recent as it was released in 2007, however Band of Horses are coming to Australia with tickets on sale next month and I had to make it this Album of the Week! Cease to Exist is the album I first heard from Band of horses and I instantly fell in love with their atmospheric, melancholy sounds with moody undertones.

I could not choose a favourite song as they are all gorgeous.

Album of the Week! - Angus and Julia Stone 'A Book Like This'

I saw Angus and Julia Stone perform a few years ago now, however this album is still at the top of my cd pile. I was in Gertrude and Alice in Bondi the other day and heard 'Soldier' which reminded me of how often I used to listen to it. Angus and Julia Stone's 'A Book Like This' is one of my favourite pics to illustrate and draw along to because of its calming, atmospheric sound. This brother and sister duo are ecclectic, other worldly, individual and expressive.




If you have not tuned into Angus and Julia Stone, I advise you do because you are missing out.This album is a journey into a stunning otherworldy story not to be missed.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK! - Paramore 'Brand New Eyes'

Did anyone see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? Well if you did you would remember the featured track from Paramore 'Brick by Boring Brick'. I saw the group when they came to Sydney in February and was blown away by their energy and electric sound! Their album 'Brand New Eyes' is a journey of discovery, life and growing stronger through life experiences. I have been listening to it lately while working on my design journal for my collection with a cup of tea in hand, getting up every now and then for a cheeky dance!!

Album of the week! Radio Head OK COMPUTER

When I rediscovered Bill Henson in my high school art diary last week, I was reminded of that year at school and my mood at the time. During that school project and being introduced to Henson's work for the first time I was listening to Radio Head, OK COMPUTER. On reflection I think If you were to look at one of Henson's macabre works while listening to the track Karma Police, it would make for an interesting match. The slow pace and hopeless air in the notes used, I think, is alike to Henson's desperate but still photographs. It is as though there is a weight in the air in the song and in Henson's works. I just thought it was an interesting parallel to explore.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK! - Vampire Weekend 'Contra'

I am always listening to music and find it very influential and vital when I am designing, travelling or relaxing. A couple of months ago I was in the car listening to the radio and came across Vampire Weekend thanks to SHAZAM!! I instantly fell in love and am particularly fond of the song Horchata. I highly recommend getting the album Contra and being inspired by Vampire Weekend's eclectic, other worldly sound. I think music is such an important tool for memory as it transports you back to the past and reminds you of where you were and how you felt when listening to that music. For example when I was studying for the HSC back in 2005 I was listening to mellow sounds such as The Shins, Augie March and The Stands and now when I listen to these bands I am reminded of the feeling I felt when finishing school and starting the next exciting stage of my life!
